If you are facing costs due to arrest or criminalization related to Palestinian liberation/solidarity actions in Toronto, this fund is for you. We strongly encourage you to apply for support, regardless of access to resources.

While our dream is to provide support to everyone impacted by the criminalization of Palestinian liberation and solidarity work, the availability of funding for our support program may fluctuate over time. As such, we are committed to prioritizing applications based on demonstrated need.

Here’s how it works:

1. FILL OUT APPLICATION

This application form includes questions about your resources and identity because some people may have greater access to resources than others, and some may face systemic barriers in the criminal justice system. These factors are considered in order to prioritize distributing funds to those who are at most risk, but eligibility for funding extends to everyone – all are encouraged to apply.

2. APPLICATIONS SORTED

Once an application is received, the Operations Committee will create an anonymized version for review by the Trustees. Anonymized forms are stored separately on a secure server from the application, and the Trustees cannot access files with identifying information. Only the Operations Committee will have access to your identifying information, and it will not be shared or used for any purposes other than collecting applications and distributing funds.

3. REVIEW PROCESS

All applications are anonymized when reviewed by the trustees.

All applications will undergo careful review, taking into account the systemic barriers faced by poor and working-class people, racialized people, Indigenous people, trans and gender nonconforming people, and queer people in accessing resources associated with their criminalization.

Decisions on all applications will consider the risk of harm and the level of need experienced by individual applicants due to structural inequities. These factors will be given significant consideration in the allocation of funds.

Applications are reviewed and funding decisions are made by 5 Trustees that were selected by The Palestinian Youth Movement - Toronto.

4. DECISIONS + RELEASE OF FUNDS

Round one is open March 1, 2024, closes on March 31, 2024 and you will be notified in April about the decision made on your application. All applications are carried through to each round, and you can apply with new expenses for every round.

A FEW THINGS TO NOTE:

  • The TCJF understands the financial burden of facing criminal charges and wishes it could fund everyone's legal costs. However, please note that submitting an application does not guarantee funding.
  • Applications are only accepted during specific time windows, based on the total available funds, and at the direction of the Trustees. We recommend submitting a new application for any new expenses incurred during subsequent funding windows.
  • If your expenses were not covered in the most recent round of funding, your application will be moved into subsequent rounds.
